Article 1
The Department of Journalism and Communication Studies (hereinafter ‘the Department’)
formulated these Regulations in accordance with Article 40 of Fu Jen Catholic University Academic
Policies.
Article 2
Course, credit, and proficiency test requirements of the Department:
Any matters not covered in these Regulations will be handled in accordance with Fu Jen Catholic University Academic Policies and related regulations.
These Regulations will be implemented after approval of the Departmental Affairs Council, College
Council, and Academic Affairs Council. The same procedure will be followed for each amendment.
Article 2
Course, credit, and proficiency test requirements of the Department:

(1) Courses required by the University: Academic Advising (0 credits, 8 semesters), Military
Training Courses (0 credits, 2 semesters)

(2) Holistic Education Fundamental Courses: 8 credits

(3) Holistic Education Core Abilities Courses: 12 credits

(4) Holistic Education General Education Courses: 12 credits

(5) Discipline-specific required courses: 68 credits
-
(6) Electives (including discipline-specific electives offered by the Department): minimum of 10
credits

(7) Courses taught in English: 4 credits

(8) A total of 128 credits are required for graduation. This number includes credits from the
following categories: courses required by the University, courses from the Holistic Education curriculum (Fundamental Courses, Core Abilities Courses, General Education Courses), courses required by the College, discipline-specific required courses, and elective courses.

(9) Proficiency tests: students must pass the Chinese and English Proficiency Tests and an
Information Literacy course.
Article 3: Prerequisites

(1) Principles and Production of Electronic Media is a prerequisite for Digital Images of
Journalism, TV News Production, and Topics in TV News

(2) Introduction to Public Relations is a prerequisite for Public Relations Strategy and Planning.

(3) Theories of Rhetoric is a prerequisite for Methods of Rhetorical Criticism.

(4) News Reporting and Writing and Newspaper Editing are prerequisites for Media Practices and
Advanced Media Practices. If a student does not pass News Reporting and Writing or Newspaper Editing, they must receive the instructor’s permission before taking Media Practices or Advanced Media Practices. - (5) If a student does not pass Media Practices or Advanced Media Practices, they may not take Internship.

(6) If a student does not pass Principles and Practicum of Photography, they may not take
Photojournalism.

(7) Students must pass three of the following courses hosted by the Department: Politics, Sociology,
Psychology, Economics, or Cultural Anthropology.

(8) Students must take required courses that are hosted by the Department. However, under unique
circumstances and after receiving permission from the Director, a student may be permitted to
take a course hosted by a different program instead.
Any matters not covered in these Regulations will be handled in accordance with Fu Jen Catholic University Academic Policies and related regulations.
