Gender Roles and Communication
This course will discuss how stereotypes of gender roles are developed through history and how such stereotypes affect our communication behavior. The developments of gender-roles stereotypes will be examined from historical, social, political-economical, and psychological perspectives. The intersections of gender-roles stereotypes and communication will be discussed mainly from interpersonal dimensions. The objectives of this course are to enhance students’ consciousness of how gender-roles stereotypes affect communication, and to develop students’ abilities to solve communication problems resulting from gender-roles stereotypes.
