Journalism
Serving as an introduction for advanced courses, this class will focus on journalistic professionalism and practices of the news media. At the end of the semester, students will:
- Understand the history of journalistic practice;
- Understand the basic concepts of journalism;
- Explore the structure and development of news media industry in Taiwan;
- Explore the key dimensions of journalistic professionalism, including public interest, fact and objectivity, freedom and independency, monitoring the powerful elites, as well as diversity;
- Compare the genres of journalistic texts;
- Explore the ethics, law, intuitional self-regulation mechanism of journalism;
- Explore the future of journalism in a postmodern society.
